Late – #SoCS 7/18/20 – Link

This week Linda gave us the prompt of “link” for #SoCS. First of all I need to link my mental being with my writing being so that every Friday I read my email from Linda for #SoCS so that I write it either on Friday or first thing Saturday morning.

This week, I really do have a good excuse for being late. A few weeks ago I began working a new job at the University of the Incarnate Word and I had quit my job at 7-11 with the understanding I could be on call if they needed me on Friday or Saturday nights graveyard. That happened this week. So, Friday afternoon I got off at 5PM and went to bed for 4 1/2 hours and then went to work from 10PM to 6AM, came home and chaired an online meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous from 7AM – 8AM and then went to bed for 12 hours.

The day slipped away and it was not until this morning that I made a link that yesterday was Saturday and I again missed my writing a #SoCS post. I really am working to get better at making sure I link Saturday with writing at least one post, the one that matters – #SoCS.

That being said, I have made a very important link about me and my continued sobriety. I recently started serving as a chairperson of the Beginners meeting at the Goliad Group my home group and I recently got elected as the secretary of the group. I also began serving again as a chairperson for my online home group Global Steps AA that happens to just meet in the church of In The Rooms. I currently have one standing meeting per week that I am the chair of and I humbly accepted when two other chairpersons asked me to sub for them until they are ready to return to their meetings.

The link that I have made is that about a month before my 50th birthday on September 14th , 2016 I stopped doing any type of service work at my home group and my online home group after almost 2 1/2 years of sobriety. Because of this the dynamic of my sobriety changed, I had become prideful and I had lost my humility where it came to my sobriety. Because of this I know for a fact that there is a link between service work and sobriety. the link is this I CAN NOT KEEP WHAT I DO NOT GIVE AWAY FREELY!!!!

Today I know the ANSWER to my continued sobriety is HUMILITY, SELF-LOVE, SERVICE, the suggested program of Alcoholics Anonymous and my HIGHER POWER whom I choose to call God. I wanted to close with an excellent reminder from one of my favorite contemporary Cristian rock artists Jeremy Camp. Please enjoy this video of “The Answer”.

#AtoZChallenge2020 – You Never Let Go

Y2020

I hate for this year’s #AtoZChallenge2020 to end. Yet, here we are at the letter “Y”. Today I have chosen Jeremy Camp’s You Never Let Go from my Apple Music playlist. You never let go has always been an important reminder when I hear ti because no matter how far I fall into my alcoholism or addiction of cocaine., my Higher Power whom I choose to call God has never let go of me. Have I let go of him, many times. Yet, I always return to my faith and I know He never let’s go!!!!

That’s what’s in  My Rattled Cage, thanks for stopping by!!!

Lyrics

Even though I walk through the valley
Of the shadow of death
Your perfect love is casting out fear
And even when I’m caught in the middle
Of the storms of this life
I won’t turn back, I know You are near
And I will fear no evil
For my God is with me
And if my God is with me
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?
And oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
Every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go off me, yeah
And I can see a light that is coming
For the heart that holds on
A glorious light beyond all compare
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
We’ll live to know You here on the earth
And I will fear no evil
For my God is with me
And if my God is with me
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?
And oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
Every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go off me, yeah
Yes, I can see a light that is coming
For the heart that holds on
There will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes, oh
Still I will praise You, Lord
Still I will praise You, Lord, oh
Singing, oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storms
Oh no, You never let go
Every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go off me, yeah, oh oh
Singing, oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
Every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go off me, yeah
You never let go off me, oh oh oh
You never let go off me, Lord

#AtoZChallenge2020 – An “R” Four Fer

R2020

We have the letter “R” today for the #AtoZChallenge2020. As I am moving through my Apple Music playlist, I find that I have almost 50 songs that start with “R”. So today I am going to have a “R” Four Fer. Each of these holds a definite place in my heart because of their messages and the way they have touched me throughout my many battles through relapse and recovery.

I have chosen Jordan Feliz’s The River because whenever I am in a weird space I will head to the San Antonio River,  which I live very close to the Mission Reach of the river, with my four legged babies and we will get in and I can sit and just pray and I always feel at peace. I have also chosen two songs by Jeremy Camp Revive Me and RestoredRevive Me is a song that reminds that every day I can ask my Higher Power whom I choose to call God to revive me of my serenity and to help stay clean and sober on a daily basis. Restored is a reminder that asking God to revive me I can feel that wonderful spirit of serenity and know that all will be well in the world.

The final song in the four fer is Lauren Daigle’s  Remember is a constant reminder that my God has always been faithful to me even when I thought he had left my side!!! You can find the lyrics by clicking on the song title. That’s what’s in  My Rattled Cage, thanks for stopping by.

#AtoZChallenge2020 – Lay Down My Pride

L2020

Here we are at the letter “L” in the 2020 #AtoZChallenge. So, as I continue my musical journey through the alphabet, I am still sharing music that is in my extensive Apple Music collection.

Today I have chose a daily anthem for me during my recovery from alcoholism and cocaine addiction. It so important that I remain humble, open minded, willing to work and listen to others. because of this I choose Jeremy Camp’s Lay Down My Pride!!

That’s what’s in My Rattled Cage, thanks for stopping by!!

Lyrics
Every single word I say
You know it before I speak
You know every thought
The deepest part of me
You draw me closer then I see
Your presence is everything I need
To be the child that you’ve created me to be
I’m ready now to see it your way
I lay down my pride
My desire’s my demise
I’m ready now to see it your way
I’m done, I’m through ignoring you, now it’s true
I’m kneeling at the cross of your grace
I lay down my pride
I was faced with passing time
But I knew the choice was mine
To finally come to you and give you all control
I’ve wandered miles to find my way
And then you revealed this simple faith
I know that you can see the secrets of my soul
The cross, the blood you shed for me
Your back was ripped and bruised
So I can know your love
I kneel, I bow to you my king

#AtoZChallenge2020 – “H” Two Fer

H2020

I am loving participating in the 2020 #AtoZChallenge. So on my musical journey through the alphabet, I am sharing music that is in my extensive Apple Music collection. today I want to remind everyone that no matter what you are going through being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, dealing with depression, alcoholism or any other drug addiction, illness – mental of physical – HE KNOWS. No matter what your faith and whom you choose to call God – He Knows. I have chosen Jeremy Camp’s  He Knows as my first song.

For something light hearted I chose Jeannie C. Riley’s  Harper Valley PTA. Why, you ask? Well when I was my 20’s and had been in San Antonio for a couple of I participated in drag show for charity and just for fun and this one the songs I lip synced to. The other was Reba McEntire’s  Fancy.

You can find the lyrics to both by clicking on the titles. That’s what’s in My Rattled Cage, thanks for stopping by!!

#SLS – 03/29/20 – “Feels Like”

So today Jim provides us with the prompts “touch” or feel” for this weeks #SLS.

Jeremy camp is one my favorite contemporary Christian Rock artists and I love this song. That’s what’s in MyRattled Cage, thanks for stopping by!!

Lyrics
I fail in every single way
But every time I hear You say
“Faithful one, come to this place
The place of rest where you belong”
Anticipate the final day
When I fall into Your warm embrace
With everything that I’ve been through
And nothing else compares
And it feels like
All these tears are coming through
When I think of all You do
And it feels like
All this joy is bleeding through
When I think of seeing You
I complicate this very state
Of resting in what You create
Nothing goes out Your control
You’ve given me this very soul
You cared enough to take my place
And given me unending grace
I know that You know every need
That’s my security
And it feels like
All these tears are coming through
When I think of all You do
And it feels like
All this joy is bleeding through
When I think of seeing You
All Your ways are so mysterious
And never far Your ear to hear us
I’ll never thirst from this drink
That You give
And it feels like, and it feels like
And it feels like, and it feels like
And it feels like, and it feels like
And it feels like, and it feels like
Alleluia
Alleluia
Alleluia

“T” is for “TAKE”

#AtoZChallenge 2019 Tenth Anniversary blogging from A to Z challenge letter

#AtoZChallenge “T”

Everyday that I wake up and don’t just come to, I am always reminded that I need to Take a Little Time to be so grateful for all that my God has created, especially all of the wonderful things in nature. I love the spring when all of my trees and flowers in my yard start gaining their brand new leaves. I love when I walk the four-legged babies along the San Antonio River and see all of the geese, ducks, turtles, fish and even snakes out enjoying their natural environment. I also need to take the time to thank God for all my blessing and even my chastisements.   Jeremy Camp’s song Take a Little Time  is a great reminder!!

And then in those times when my or anyone’s manic episodes are on the rise and the depression is trying to creep in with those stinking thinking thoughts of want to drink or use, I need to also remember that God always will Take You Back  also by  Jeremy Camp!!!

That’s what’s in “my Rattled Cage”, thanks for stopping by!!!
